What drives the website?
We always had the intention of sharing our travel experiences. As some of us are quite indulgent in computers, we tried a hand at making a small web application to publish our pictures and experiences. Many great tools are already avaliable on the web, but we wanted to make something which we can call "our own". After repeated attempts, we had reached nowhere. It is hard to put a finger any single reason, though.
In the meantime, we did manage to put up our galleries for some of our trips to Uttarakhand(The Valley of Flowers, Nainital/Lansdowne, Ukhimath) and Himachal Pradesh (The Lahaul Valley).
But they were released quite late, not announced formally and were completely static, which meant that we started out from ground zero everytime we intended on making one.
By April of 2007, we had become frustrated of compiling our experiences but not being able to make them public. There was almost a sort of guilt coming over us as we planned for a grand trip to Leh. This would be a trip on much larger proportions. And on looking back, a gloom came over us. What if these memories suffer the same fate...
So through the week that included last days of April and first days of May of 2007, we put in our efforts to make something concrete. And guess what....
Are these set of scripts good for anything else?
During the period of development, we felt that instead of looking at something exclusively for our travel galleries, we can extend this for general use. And yes, we can. The architecture is quite simple. Just change a couple of lines of code, and you have it for any sort of image galleries. Though the database was created keeping such galleries in mind, it can be flexible with others.
But for something like what you see
on this site, it works great.
